Last week in BSD
Releases: FreeNAS, FuguIta
Other news:OpenBSD, FreeBSD, DragonFly BSD, BSDnow, PC-BSD, Lumina Desktop

Releases

FreeNAS 9.2.1.4.1-RELEASE has replaced 9.2.1.4-RELEASE

Due to #4836, we have decided to release 9.2.1.4.1-RELEASE as a replacement for 9.2.1.4. It is in all other respects identical to 9.2.1.4, simply with that ZFS snapshot UI bug fixed. We apologize for the inconvenience to those who have already upgraded to 9.2.1.4, but decided it was better to fix the #1 issue people were encountering with 9.2.1.4 rather than try for some kind of work-around.
Now folks should also know why we want auto-updates in 9.2.2 so badly – it will make correcting these kinds of issues much, much easier on all concerned!

Quick Lumina Desktop FAQ

I am seeing lots of interest and questions about Lumina since it was mentioned in the PC-BSD weekly update last week, so I am just going to try and answer some of the big questions that I have been seeing.

DragonFly BSD: Binutils update to 2.24

John Marino has moved DragonFly from binutils 2.22 to 2.24.  I think this may require a full buildworld when upgrading…  not sure.  Anyway, binutils has a changelog if you are curious.

DragonFly BSD: ISA support is really gone

ISA device support is really gone.  Well, except for keyboard and some spots where it can’t be be removed.  I don’t think I’ve even seen an ISA card in some years…

DragonFly BSD: Go APE for bge and bnx

The bnx(4) and bge(4) network drivers now have APE support, thanks to Sepherosa Ziehau.  What’s that mean?  Other than an opportunity for punning jokes, I don’t know.

“We cannot trust” Intel and Via’s chip-based crypto, FreeBSD developers say

Developers of the FreeBSD operating system will no longer allow users to trust processors manufactured by Intel and Via Technologies as the sole source of random numbers needed to generate cryptographic keys that can't easily be cracked by government spies and other adversaries.
