MidnightBSD 0.6-RELEASE

This release is primarily a security fix and mport package tool release.

May 1st, 2015, Calgary, AB, CA and elsewhere:
OpenBSD 5.7 has been released. The brand new 5.7 subdirectory should now be available and filled up on all relevant mirrors for those of you who have yet to receive your CD orders.
The release announcement, posted on project mailing lists earlier today, and the release home page both mention some highlights of the new release, while the complete changelog for the release is available on the OpenBSD website.
While you are too late to be the first to preorder a shiny OpenBSD release CD set, you can order one of your own, as well as a very cool 5.7-release poster.

5.7 CDs delayed

PC-BSD 10.1.2-RC1, Lumina Desktop 0.8.4 Released!

The PC-BSD team is pleased to announce the availability of RC1 images for the upcoming quarterly 10.1.2 release. Please test these images out and report any issues found on our bug tracker.
What else is new in PC-BSD 10.1.2? How about a new version of the Lumina Desktop Environment! PC-BSD users who stick to the “Production” branch of packages will find that the Lumina desktop has evolved/improved an incredible amount since the last quarterly update for PC-BSD (10.1.1), so I highly recommend that you try it out! The release notes for this new version are also listed at the bottom of this announcement for those of you who have been tracking along with its development, so please try it out and let us know what you think!

OPNsense version 15.1.7.1 Released

bsdinstaller: work towards embedded installations, e.g. Quick/Easy disk selection
opnsense-update: added command line switches and a manual page for usability’s sake

ports: updated to LibreSSL 2.1.4 (for our experimental LibreSSL flavour only)
directory layout: collapsed the /conf -> /cf/conf magic into a simple /conf directory (needs a reboot to take effect)
certificates: consistently lowered the default lifetime to 1 year
captive portal: fixed an issue that prevented traffic forwarding in some cases

OPNsense version 15.1.7.2 Released

bsdinstaller: fixed the package database wipe on custom install
bsdinstaller: install progress bar is now more responsive with regard to individual directories in /usr
firmware: removed obsoleted upgrade code and tools following our pkgng/opnsense-update approach
miniupnpd: now properly links to the OpenSSL/LibreSSL port
ipmitool: now properly links to the OpenSSL/LibreSSL port
core: extensive cleanups for PHP shebang usage, wiped numerous unused scripts and unreachable web pages, removed PBI remnants, removed ‘tmp_path’ softcoding to improve readability and git-grep(1) experience, removed stale debug statement that were only marginally useful while bumping the statements to default that indicate real errors
console: fixed halt script permissions and switched to synchronous mode
sysctl: added net.inet6.ip6.rfc6204w3 to improve the DHCPv6 experience
nat: remove target IP hardcoding in automatic rules (props to pfSense for pointing that out to us)
rc: fixed missing package database when using the MFS option for /var
configd: added a standard rc.d script for easy daemon control
mvc: a lot of new code to support general infrastructure for upcoming porting of features, e.g. proxy feature
help: adjusted links in the help menu to use HTTPS and improved targeting

DragonFly 4.0.4 out

DragonFly 4.0 has had a minor point release, to 4.0.4. There was a bug in the initial install where the rescue image installed on disk would be incorrect. This was fixed after the first time a build/installworld was done, but might as well have it start out right. There’s some other small fixes, and the release commit will show you the summary. Download from your nearest mirror or update normally.

GhostBSD 10.1 Alpha 1 now available

I am pleased to announce the availability the fist ALPHA build of the 10.1-RELEASE Release cycle which is available on SourceForge for the amd64 and i386 architectures.
Changes and fix between 4.0-RELEASE and 10.1-ALPHA1 include:

GDM as been replaced by PCDM
Wifimgr is now fully replaced by Networkmgr
A beta version of Update Station is now in GhostBSD whish update FreeBSD base system and software
The installer partition editor got a lot of improment
The installer use the latest pc-sysinstall from PCBSD GitHup
GhostBSD is now following the same release number then FreeBSD and PCBSD

We're away at AsiaBSDCon this week, but we've still got a packed episode for you. First up is a sequel to the "PC-BSD tour" segment from a while back, highlighting how ZFS boot environments work. DragonFly x256

DragonFly now supports running on up to 256 CPUs. 256 is the initial limit on the basic interrupt controller, and it can be extended further. It’s been tested on 255 CPUs so far, since that’s the highest number of CPUs you can bring up in qemu.

First Release of LibreSSL Portable Available

Bob Beck (beck@) announced the release of LibreSSL-portable:

The first release of LibreSSL portable has been released. LibreSSL
can be found in the LibreSSL directory of your favorite OpenBSD mirror.

http://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/LibreSSL has it, and other mirrors
will soon.

libressl-2.0.0.tar.gz has been tested to build on various versions of
Linux, Solaris, Mac OSX, and FreeBSD.

This is intended as an initial release to allow the community to start
using and providing feedback. We will be adding support for
other platforms as time and resources permit.

Second Release of LibreSSL Portable Available

Bob Beck (beck@) announced the second release of LibreSSL-portable:

We have released an update, LibreSSL 2.0.1

This release includes a number of portability fixes based on the
initial feedback we have received from the community.  This includes
among other things two new configure options to set OPENSSLDIR and
ENGINESDIR. We have removed a few hardcoded compiler options that
were problematic on some systems as well as -Werror. We have also
re-synced with the latest OpenBSD sources as a number of issues
were fixed upstream. This release also includes pkg-config support.

As noted before, we welcome feedback from the broader community.

LDAP on DragonFly

If you’re looking to use LDAP on DragonFly, follow this thread (read the first, keep going) as people talk about implementing it, what they installed, etc.

pkg and conflicts

Some dports packages can’t be installed in combination with others. The easy way to find the conflict without doing the install? Look for CONFLICTS= in the Makefile. If you don’t have the dports tree on disk, you can always look online.

Preorders Open For The Book PF, 3rd Edition

The third edition of The Book of PF is now available for preorder from the No Starch Press site. There will also be an early access program for the very eager readers. Author Peter Hansteen (also a co-editor here) tells us that highlights of the new edition include a walkthrough of the new traffic shaping system, a bit more IPv6 material than previous editions and various updates and fixes to the text so it's in line with the recently released OpenBSD 5.5 and will hopefully be useful past OpenbSD 5.6 and some time into the future.

Frederic Culot takes over as portmgr-secretary@

It is with great pleasure that the FreeBSD Ports Management Team announces that Frederic (culot@) Culot will take over responsibilities of team secretary effective immediately.

Linux Skype 4.0.0.8 on FreeBSD working

If you need Skype on FreeBSD (be aware though ;-), Artyom Mirgorodskiy managed to get the Linux version of Skype (4.0.0.8) to work on FreeBSD. The FreeBSD Skype port is deprecated, but if you follow the steps in Artyom’s guide, it should work fine.

OpenBSD ntfs-3g complete !

sysutils/ntfs-3g is now in ports, patches are needed on libfuse but that's now merged in the tree. What will be needed at the moment is to add two lines in the kernel config (yes, it mean that you need to recompile the kernel until the following is added to GENERIC)
option FUSE
pseduo-device fuse 10
That's cool to see ntfs support in OpenBSD ! :)

TrueNAS Unified Storage Appliance now Citrix Certified

iXsystems, the all-around FreeBSD company that builds FreeBSD certified servers and storage solutions, has announced that their TrueNAS Unified Storage Appliance has been now been certified as Citrix Ready.
"As a member of the Citrix Ready program, we are able to offer our clients intelligent solutions that combine TrueNAS unified storage with Citrix XenServer,” said Peter Allen, Applied Engineering Specialist. “The offering demonstrates our plans to work with trusted partners, through the Citrix Ready partner ecosystem, in order to provide the highest quality experience for our clients.”

GhostBSD May 2013 Reports

GhostBSD 3.5 development is started. The new installer development is in heavy testing and debugging stage. The software list on 3.5 will be more uniform, like Firefox, Thunderbird, Banshee, Brasero, gThumb, Apache OpenOffice and more. This will prevent some confusion for some user and more easy for developers to maintain.

MidnightBSD

New branch for 0.4 created RELENG_0_4.

We're in the process of updating X.org mports to fix the previously reported security vulnerabilities. The ports tree might be unstable during this process as we flush out bugs caused by the updates.
x11-servers, x11-fonts, x11, x11-toolkits (related to X), devel/xorg-macros, devel/pkgconf, etc. have been updated so far. "X.org 7.7" We've got updated GNUstep back, base & gui ports so far. Bacula and tarsnap were added to mports tonight.
