I don't have that much BSD sources so far, so here comes some news for last week (+-):

 

FreeNAS 8.3.1 is Released!

The FreeNAS development team is pleased to announce the immediate availability of FreeNAS 8.3.1-RELEASE.

FreeNAS 8.3.1 is based on FreeBSD 8.3 with version 28 of the ZFS filesystem, and features volume based encryption for ZFS.

iXsystems debuts exclusive ZFS Encryption Feature in FreeNAS 8.3.1

Thanks to ZFS encryption, security-conscious users will be able to prevent their data from being read if the disks are disconnected from their system.

The ZFS encryption module runs as fast as unencrypted volumes on processors that support the AES-NI instruction set. AES-NI instructions are available on many Intel and AMD processors.

The encryption key management has been made user friendly with options for automatically restarting the volume, or requiring an operator to manually enter in a key depending on the user's required level of security. In addition encryption allows for confidence when retiring and recycling hard drives because the drives no longer need to be wiped provided the keys are obliterated.

Porting FreeBSD to Efika Platforms Project Completed

We are pleased to announce the Porting FreeBSD to the Genesi Efika MX SmartBook laptop and SmartTop nettop devices projects has completed! While many FreeBSD developers are working on ARM on embedded systems we feel it's important to show FreeBSD running on ARM devices that people can easily touch and interact with. The port of FreeBSD to the Genesi Efika platforms makes that possible. It has also made possible Xorg running on many other ARM devices, including the Raspberry Pi.

Accepting Travel Grant Applications for BSDCan 2013

The FreeBSD Foundation will be providing a limited number of travel grants to individuals requesting assistance. Please fill out and submit  the Travel Grant Request Application  by April 17, 2013 to apply for this grant.

Bug fixes

• Revert to use dual vga/serial mode on the vga image: Somes servers have buggy serial support
• Disable "device tcl" (CAM Target Layer, useless for a router) that consume 32MB of RAM
