OpenBSD 5.3 Released!

The OpenBSD project today formally released OpenBSD 5.3, the project's 34th release on the steady six monthly release cycle. Notable news in the present release include the a production ready release of OpenSMTPD, a much-renovated dhclient(8), a slew of new drivers for various hardware, OpenSSH release 6.2 as well as numerous improvements in all parts of the system. The OpenBSD 5.3 release page has more information, with further details given at the changelog page.
The new release is available as an inexpensive CD set and as a free download from mirror sites in several countries worldwide.

NetBSD 6.1 Release Candidate 4

The fourth release candidate of NetBSD 6.1 is now available for download at: http://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-6.1_RC4/. It is expected that this will be the final release candidate, with the official release following very soon.
(Please note that while the third release candidate (RC3) was tagged and built, it was never officially released)
NetBSD 6.1 will be the first feature update for the NetBSD 6 branch. There are many new drivers, some new features, and many bug fixes! Fixes since RC2 include:
  • Fixes to npfctl(8) parsing and error handling
  • Fix sendto(2) issue with IPv6 UDP datagrams. PR#13082
  • Fixed ACPI issues affecting some AMD systems. PR#47016, PR#47648.
  • Change vax MAXPARTITION from 16 to 12, addressing boot issues on some systems
  • Bump libpthread minor version to libpthread.so.1.1 for the addition of pthread_cond_setclock() earlier in the 6.1 release cycle; note that this is *NOT* the same as libpthread.so.1.1 in NetBSD-current. (libpthread.so in NetBSD-current is already at version 1.2)
  • Provide libc stubs to libpthread, allowing libpthread to be dlopen()ed.
  • Fix a userland-triggered panic on x68k systems.
A complete list of changes can be found at: http://ftp.NetBSD.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-6.1_RC4/CHANGES-6.1
Please help us test this and any upcoming release candidates as much as possible. Remember, any feedback is good feedback. We'd love to hear from you, whether you've got a complaint or a compliment.

DiscoverBSD Google+ Page

View profileI created page on Google+. I think this can bring more readers and ways to propagate this blog out there. I will share this blog post and other BSD stuff.

So please follow us, so you can see all new posts on time!

Small changes to Blog:

  • beginning of blog with small resume - better when sharing on web - still some troubles with that, actually
  • changes in writing news: categories like releases, other news (for example this week I have: BSD Releases and DiscoverBSD Google+ Page)
  • trying to add pictures to make it easier to read - no one wanna read just text, and also better to read just part that you are interested in (eg. NetBSD news only)

 Thanks for reading and comments!
