GhostBSD 4.0-ALPHA1 now available 

The first ALPHA build of the 4.0-RELEASE release cycle is now available on SourceForge for the amd64, i386 architectures.

DragonFly BSD: For Intel graphics users who can’t find a monitor 

If you’re using the i915 driver for xorg, and xorg dies with a “No monitor specified for screen” error, there’s a config change to fix that, or you can just update.

coretemp available on DragonFly by default

Coretemp is now in the default kernel configs for DragonFly, so you can use coretemp to see your Intel CPU temperature.

Bugs site now supports OpenID

bugs.dragonflybsd.org, the bug reporting site for DragonFly, uses Redmine.  It’s been updated and now can take OpenID for your login.

BSDCan 2014 Registrations Open 

Registration for the 2014 version of the main and longest running North American BSD conference, BSDCan, is now open. The conference takes place in Ottawa, Canada, on the University of Ottawa campus May 14-15 (tutorials) and May 16-17 (talks). You can register for the conference here.

Some key features of the new Mini include:

• 16GB of ECC memory = max performance and data protection (upgradeable to 32GB)
• Hot swap functionality with tool-less, front loading drive bays
• Capable of saturating dual Intel Gigabit LAN Ports
• Dedicated Remote Hardware Management Interface (IPMI) or option to share through on-board LAN
• Latest FreeNAS version installed and configured on dedicated, internal flash device
• 3 x USB 2.0 Ports (2 front, 1 rear), 1 x Serial Port (DB9), 1 x VGA
• Physical security: locking front bezel, latchable drive trays, and chassis lock eyelet (for cable or padlock)
• Uses Western Digital Red drives, which are specifically designed for small office and home office NAS applications

NetBSD: First ports switched to gcc 4.8 

After several months of preparation, the first ports (hppa, sparc and sparc64) have switched their compiler to gcc version 4.8 today. Amd64 and i386 should follow soon.
